Dr. Michael Morgan is a professor at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he teaches voice, speech, text, and applied theatre. His other teaching credentials include Penn State, Yale School of Drama, Temple University, Walnut Street Theatre, Theatre Conservatorium in Brussels, Royal Conservatoire in Liege, Arena Stage, Neighborhood Playhouse, University of Hawaii, American Academy of Dramatic Art, UC San Diego, Pepperdine University, California Institute of the Arts, Shanghai Theatre Academy and Theatre of Changes in Athens. As an actor, he has performed at the Mark Taper Forum, Yale Rep, La Mama, California Shakespeare Festival, Ensemble Theatre New York, Independent Shakespeare Company, La Jolla Playhouse, Shakespeare & Company, Peoples Light and Theatre Company, the Red Pear Theatre in the south of France, City Street Theatre, the Negro Ensemble Company, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Lobero Theatre, Classical Theatre Lab in Los Angeles, Sierra Repertory Theatre, the Working Theatre, the Black Entertainment Network, Off-Broadway, and in numerous films, TV soaps, and voice-overs. He has been the accent and voice coach for several national theatres including the Cleveland Playhouse, American Player’s Theatre, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, and the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. Morgan spearheaded The Odyssey Project, a theatre initiative with incarcerated youth, and continues to work as an art-activist for the liberation of marginalized voices (https://odyssey.projects.theaterdance.ucsb.edu). His recently collaborated with youth experiencing homelessness in The Going Home Project and is implementing a project with incarcerated female youth called The Trojan Women Project. Michael is the author of Constructing the Holistic Actor: Fitzmaurice Voicework. His article "Voice and Chinese Medicine" was published in the Voice and Speech Review and his essay “Qi-Gong Breathing” was a chapter in Breath in Action published by Jessica Kingsley. Michael is also a designated Linklater teacher. He began actor training at NYU/Tisch and was a Linklater trainer at Shakespeare and Company. Michael completed an MS Samra University of Oriental Medicine and went on to earn a PhD at the University of California Santa Barbara where he currently teaches.
