Janet Madelle Feindel, based in Quebec and Spain, Cert 2002,MFA, Professor Emerita, Carnegie Mellon, author of THE THOUGHT PROPELS THE SOUND, Plural Publishing, is giving on line courses in Intro Fitzmaurice Voice. Text, audition, voice over and Alexander Technique coaching offered as well.
Feindel proudly certified as an associate Fitzmaurice® teacher in 2001. She was awarded a lifetime membership with the Pacific Voice and Speech Foundation, in San Francisco for her “exemplary contributions to the pedagogy and care of the artistic voice”. She has coached and/or trained hundreds of sought after actors including Academy Award recipient F. Murray Abraham; Golden Globe recipient Matt Bomer; Tony Award recipients Patina Miller, Leslie Odom Jr; Gaius Charles (Friday Night Lights, Grey’s Anatomy); Tony Award nominees Megan Hilty and Josh Gad, among many others. Her professional credits include: Theatre for a New Audience, NYC/Royal Shakespeare Company Complete Works, UK; Queer as Folk; One Voice Training with Joan Melton; Stratford Festival, Canada including the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre; Canadian Stage Company; Shaw Festival, where she also served as Principal of the Academy; and dialect coaching for Quantum, The Rep, Pittsburgh Public and Jewish Theatre of Pittsburgh.
Many of her successful methods are outlined in her book, The Thought Propels the Sound, Plural Publishing, which is used at numerous institutions including Stanford University and was reviewed enthusiastically in the Voice and Speech Journal, American Theatre Magazine & British Voice Association Communicating Voices. Other publications include a chapter in Performer’s Voice, Plural; several articles in the International Congress for the Alexander Technique Papers, STAT, UK; Globe and Mail National Edition & Canadian Theatre Review. Her play A PARTICULAR CLASS OF WOMEN, is published by Lazara & in SINGULAR VOICES, Canada Playwrights Press.
She is a Designated Linklater Voice and completed a voice teacher training with David Smukler. She worked extensively with Cicely Berry, CBE, Francis Thomas, Andrew Wade and Richard Armstrong, among many others. Also an Alexander Technique teacher, Feindel certified with the Amercian Society of Alexander Technique (AmSAT); Alexander Technique Canada (ATIC/CanSTAT); Alexander Technique International (ATI); International Somatic Educators and Therapists Association (ISMETA); and Regroupement d’éducation somatique (RES). She completed a teacher training with Yoga Alliance (200).
Feindel has led workshops internationally including: Choice for Voice (British Voice Association); ATI & International Alexander Technique Congress, the Care of the Professional Voice Symposium, Pacific Voice, Speech Foundation, the Fitzmaurice Teachers’ Symposium and numerous workshops in Quebec, USA and Germany. Feindel resides in the Montreal area where she teaches at John Abbott Professional Acting Program, Concordia Performance Program and consults privately. She is a Professor Emerita in Voice/Alexander/Dialects at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), where she taught for over two decades. Among her many accomplishments during her tenure at CMU, she spearheaded the Hope Academy/CMU coaching program, recognized by the Leonard Gelfand Center for Service Learning & Outreach; helped initiate the Diversity and Inclusion Committee; initiated the Guidelines for Sensitive Material and Vocal Health Seminars, (with faculty at University of Pittsburgh Voice Clinic), within the School of Drama.
