Elizabeth Alman also teaches at Catholic University of America, and is a Master Teaching Artist at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington DC. She has extensive experience as an actor, director and performance consultant. She has appeared in over one hundred productions nationally at such theatres as Cleveland Play House, Studio Theatre (DC), Alabama Shakespeare Festival, New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, and Round House Theatre. From 1999 to 2002 she was an Acting Company Member at the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) in Washington DC where she had the pleasure of working with acclaimed directors Michael Kahn, Jo Anne Akalaitis, Rachel Kavanaugh, and Keith Baxter. In 2000 Elizabeth began teaching for STC’s cornerstone educational programs and in 2007 she was promoted to Master Teaching Artist. Elizabeth has taught at the Academy of Classical Acting (STC/George Washington University) and the University of Maryland-College Park. As a director, she has worked on over a dozen studio productions for STC’s Education Department including Antony and Cleopatra, Hamlet, and Twelfth Night. In 2005, she directed a production of Again for Cydnus (her adaptation of Antony and Cleopatra) at the University of Maryland-College Park. Elizabeth has served as a Performance Consultant (addressing performance issues of acting, text, voice, speech, dialects, and movement) on productions at the Kennedy Center, Round House Theatre, Rep Stage, and Everyman Theatre, among others. She maintains a private practice of performance consulting in the Washington metro area where her clients include a member of Congress, the State Department, and the International Monetary Fund. Elizabeth is a doctoral candidate in the Theatre and Performance Studies Program in the Department of Theatre at the University of Maryland-College Park. Her areas of specialization and interest include Shakespeare in performance and performance pedagogy. She has presented papers at the International Federation of Theatre Research, Mid-America Theatre Conference, and Hawaii International Conference for Arts and Humanities. She is a Cosmos Club Foundation Scholar and a Shakespeare's Globe Fellow. As part of the Globe Fellowship she had residencies at Shakespeare's Globe (London) in 2005 and 2006 studying the company's performance practices in the Globe Playhouse reconstruction. Elizabeth’s professional memberships include Actors' Equity Association, Voice and Speech Trainers Association, Shakespeare Association of America, and Kitchen Member at Round House Theatre.
