25 years, until mid-2017, were focused on the academic theatre arena in the US Southeast and Rocky Mountain areas. Home base is currently the South Harlem area of NYC which enriches his time between acting, directing, teaching, and writing opportunities. Favorite roles include Shylock, Polonius, Sir Toby, Rothko, Picasso, Joe Keller and Edna Turnblad. Favorite venues include the Clarence Brown Company, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Single Carrot Theatre, Baltimore, Maryland, and Thingamajig Theatre Company, Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Directing credits include Merry Wives of Windsor and Comedy of Errors for Albuquerque’s Shakespeare on the Plaza, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Pirates of Penzance, Spring Awakening, The Secret Garden, Titus Andronicus, Love’s Labour’s Lost, and The Learned Ladies. Dennis has also developed and performed a series of one-man shows regionally of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (C. S. Lewis), Never Bet the Devil Your Head (Edgar Allen Poe), and Tipping the Glass, an Evening with O. Henry. He recently premiered his solo show, box., in Savannah focusing on the trials of packing and unpacking the boxes in our lives. Elkins is a certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework and a member of Actors’ Equity Association.
