Russell Smith is a voice, speech and accent coach, as well as a specialist singing coach with over 20 years experience. He has taught in Dublin, Ireland since 1998 at the Gaiety School of Acting – the National Theatre School of Ireland, as well as on the performing-arts degree programmes at both Trinity College Dublin and the American College Dublin, and also both the ACTT and AADA in Sydney, Australia. Russell has also taught in London, Shanghai and LA.
In addition to Fitzmaurice voicework, Russell draws on a long-standing in-depth training and teaching practice following the Roy Hart approach to voice, having worked with over a dozen founding and second-generation members of the Roy Hart Theatre since the early 1990’s, most notably Kevin Crawford, Kaya Anderson and Jonathan Hart. Russell teaches a synthesis of these and other vocal/physical methods. Previously an honours graduate in social and political science of Trinity College Dublin and subsequently of the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin, with a background in physical massage therapy and professional choral singing, Russell has also enjoyed a career as actor, singer, musician/musical director/arranger/composer in Irish theatre and film since 1994.
