I have been a theater artist - actor, director, voice/accent/text coach, playwright, producer, dramaturg, artistic director and literary manager - and taught in university acting programs since 1987. I have an MFA from UC Irvine in Acting. I founded Chicago Voice Center in 2009 to bring classes, workshops and seminars to Chicago performers and since 2013 have specialized in working with transgender and non-binary clients on exploring healthy and expressive voices, in Chicago and also globally via telepractice. I work with business leaders on presenting skills and professional development, and with arts and medical organizations to bring voice, breath, movement and improvisation trainings for retention of talent and team building. Recent clients include the Chicago Sinfonietta, Rush Medical Center, Blue Bird Arts, NBC's Chicago Fire and ABC's Betrayal. I have taught at Columbia College Chicago, DePaul University, Northwestern University, UC Irvine, San Francisco and San Diego State universities, California State Long Beach and the University of Texas at El Paso. Acting credits include Cornerstone Theater Company, the Mark Taper Forum, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Berkeley Shakespeare Theater, Marin Theater Company, The Magic Theater, The Eureka Theater, Upstart Crow, West Coast Ensemble, The Hugo House Seattle, Victory Gardens, American Theater Company, Women's Theater Alliance, Delaware Theater Company, Nebraska Repertory Theater, Madison Repertory Theater, Theater at the Center, Fabulous Monsters, Piven Theatre, ShawChicago and LA's Theater of NOTE. Recent presentations on transgender voice at conferences include the Creative Bodies Creative Minds conference in 2018 at Graz, Austria, the Transgender Voices Festival 2018 with One Voice St. Paul, the Transgender Singing Festival at Earlham College in 2017 and the upcoming VASTA/PAVA joint 2018 Seattle conference. I work with psychologists, speech language pathologists, ENTs, and other service providers to support the transgender and non-binary communities. I host a twice-monthly drop-in voice class for Howard Brown Health's After Hours program, and conduct workshops on transgender voice, Fitzmaurice Voicework and public speaking for women.
